This week is National Mental Illness Awareness Week.
I am not ashamed to discuss my struggle with bipolar disorder. Though it has been deeply personal, anyone who knows me knows how I feel about spreading awareness and quashing the stigma.
I have been to the most miserable depths of my tortured mind. I would not be able to persevere through this illness alone. Other than medication, the support I have received (and continue to receive) from family, friends, and even strangers- has made all the difference in my life.
Meet my favorite organization: NAMI - They have every possible resource you could imagine. The best part? They have support for family and friends for those who suffer from mental illness.
FREE resources.

| Statistically, you know someone with a mental illness. Help them by understanding them. |
Mental illness is not a choice. It is not laziness. It is not something we can will ourselves out of.
Don't be ashamed, you're not alone and there is help out there.
And if you are lucky enough to live without a mental illness speak up, try to understand, and offer kindness and help to those in need.
